Shake It

Tonight we revisited a ritual that we practiced a little while back: Nightly Dance Party. This ritual involves turning off the Newshour and turning on the music. It really is better for the family--better than when hubby and I shush the kids so we can hear about the latest supreme court decision or hear what Shields and Brooks have to say about Obama's trip to Europe.

Yes, we love the Newshour and have great affection for Jim, Gwen, Judy, and the rest of the gang. But it's better for everyone if sometimes we say goodbye to them and say hello to "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" or "Papa Was a Rolling Stone." News, schmews. Play that funky music, white boy.

That's so sweet (and right on as far as rejuvenation qualities)! My boys like to do dance parties with the 1980s music like Video Killed the Radio Star and I Want Candy. Tee hee.

ps: Now I have the following stuck in my head: "If you win, you get this shiny fiddle made of gold; and if you lose, the devil gets yer soullllll..."

Well i don't know how to write you so I'll do it here. I see you just read, or are reading, Roth's "Indignation." I am trying to get people to read my stuff. So, if your interested i wrote a paper on Roth's character Marcus and Shakespeare's Malvolio, who is mentioned a few times in the novel. You can find it here (http://norcalbookstravelandthought.blogspot.com/). Happy dissertation writing!

I could not agree more. I can't help but get in a good mood when there's music on and the wee one is dancing. We rock out to Jack Johnson, reggae, Nina Simone...
