Flying the AI Flag

I used to sheepishly refer to American Idol as my "guilty pleasure." But now I am officially renouncing the "guilty" part of that modifier. If it's good enough for KISS, Queen, Black-Eyed Peas, and Santana (just to name a few), then it's good enough for Good Enough Woman to watch proudly and with great pleasure.

I would like to say that no one should feel guilty about any of their entertainment pleasure, but I once saw Rock of Love at a vacation rental, and how can anyone watch that and not feel guilty about something?

Finally! Welcome!

American Idol stepped it UP this season and that finale rocked. I mean, the duet with Cyndi Lauper playing that cool dobro? Hello? That chick is 17 years old and she nailed it!

All those kids are amazing artists and I'm sure they will all go on to great success. It's just a feel good show and I love it. LOVE IT!

It IS feel good. And I LOVED Norman Gentle, and I LOVED when Kara showed up Bikini Girl AND her new boobs.

I was shouting with glee when Adam starting singing "Beth," and then I was jumping out of my seat when he introduced KISS and I heard the "Detroit, Rock City" riff. I definitely need to get more KISS back into my life.

And Santana? That guy is just. So. Good.

I have some Facebook "friends" who are going on about how dreadful the show is and how they can't stomach more than five minutes. What's with that? Am I missing something? The editing is super funny, the singing is good. I mean PRINCE came on the show. I know he's a Jehovah's Witness now, but he's still Prince. How can it be lame? Maybe it's me?

I am treated like an intellectual pig for enjoying The Apprentice UK and the odd Top Model. I tell people that some people smoke crack, have a whiskey, etc, this is my way to unwind.

I haven't caught any of American Idol this season. I tend to enjoy it (and GEW - we could make many connections to our discussion about pretty hair and teeth etc, which there's nothing wrong with).

I must say last season, I was a bit disheartened by all these music legends pimping their wares on it, but maybe I need to let go of that. You guys have a far more positive spin on it. No to guilt!

AH, Yes, there is a fair amount of pimping going on and, when such pimping is done by washed up has beens, it's a little cringy. But if it means I get to see KISS perform in full makeup? Bring it on.

I did not watch the show but I am sorry to have missed the finale because it was all I heard about this week! Were you happy with the winner?

And honestly, the smartest thing KISS ever did was wear all that makeup because they don't look any older now, really, when performing!

Btw, I saw Paul Stanley as Phantom of the Opera in Toronto! He couldn't quite pull off the highest notes but was otherwise quite mesmerizing. Gotta wonder about that casting road, eh?

Ink, Interesting about Stanley and Phantom of the Opera! Oh, I had QUITE the crush on him when I was in high school. Saw them twice in concert (sans make-up). As have said elsewhere: It was the Midwest. The 80s. AquaSteel ruled . . . as did the hard rock, glam rock, and southern rock. As for KISS in makeup, I was saying the same thing when they were on the show!
