Broken, Broken, Broken

Apparently, my son's ankle is broken. Apparently, it's been broken since the end of February when we went on a trip to Berkeley. Apparently, I am a terrible mother.

Details to follow soon.

Oh no! That's terrible news. If it makes you feel any better my mother didn't detect my brother's broken arm, even though he had just fallen out of a tree, he was crying, the bone was pushing out towards the skin and...she is a doctor. She didn't feel too terrible though. These things happen.

I hope he has a speedy recovery.

Owie! Don't sweat it - kids are resilient and tough, and some of them have high pain thresholds. So high that they never complain about pain, even if their ear drum bursts, or if they have an ovarian cyst the size of a tennis ball, or, or...even if they have a broken ankle.

You are not a terrible Mom.

Peace and Good.

NOT (a terrible mom)!

Have mercy! No point in beating up on yourself--a really bad mother would have broken the ankle herself in a drunken rage. Perhaps this will be just a funny story from his childhood. (((hugs)))

What?????
Unless you broke his ankle like Kathy Bates in Misery, I don't think you are a terrible mother at all. And I seriously doubt you stood over his bed with mallet in hand.
Big hugs to you and the boy.

I broke my forearm when I young and mom forgot to take me to the appointment where they replace the full arm cast with a little one.

The bone is sorta U shaped to this day, and when they took the cast off I couldn't bend my arm for a couple of weeks cause all the ligaments and whatnot had shrunk.

And then she blamed me for not reminding her about the appointment.

You're doing fine. =)

If it has been "broken" since February and you are just now learning about it, it could not have been that bad. You are NOT a bad mother. I walked around on a broken leg for a month (granted, it did hurt...but I'm old...) and it was not the worst... I hope he is doing better! BIG hugs from Mattie and all of us!!

The swelling was on and off again and tiny, His entire ankle was not swollen or red - just a little puffy spot that hurt when all of us poked on it.

Not a bad mother. But I swear, it can't have been that long ago, can it? It seems like a couple of months.

You're not a terrible mother! I do hope the ankle mends quickly. Sending well-wishes to your son and reassurances to you :)

Thanks for all of the reassurances and well-wishing everybody! The boy is doing fine in his cast (he's allowed to walk on it, thank goodness), and we've ordered a waterproof sock thing so that maybe he'll still be able to swim on our big trip.

AH, your story really makes me feel less negligent (no offense to your mom).

PF, No, I didn't hobble him a la Kathy Bates style. So that's something.

Bax, I never noticed!
