From the Mouth of Someone Else's Babe

At the school playground on Sunday, my kids were playing with a couple of other kids. One of them, a little three-year-old boy, found two army men in the grass.

My Girl: Hey, those are from Toy Story!

The little boy: No.

My Girl: Yes.

The little boy: No.

Me: Oh, yeah, sweetie that's right. A whole group of army men like that green one. Good memory!

Boy: Unh-unh.

Me: Yes, I think so.

Boy: No they weren't, WOMAN. You IDIOT.

Oh hells no he didn't! What are his parents like? The father? Or was he just a stranger chauvinist-in-training??

Oh...that is so very, well, sad. Poor kid...what kind of life he's subjected to that such things would come out of his mouth at such a young age.

@alysonhill - MY hands were itchy, but it was his parents I wanted to smack, not the little boy!

I do believe that child's father must say that to the mom quite often...Rotten!

Yikes. I'm not sure how I would have handled that. Talk to the kid? Walk away? Gape? I am so not prepared for parenthood!

I have met the parents. Benefit of the doubt: the dad says it jokingly to the mom. Let's hope.

I busted out with the usual parent stuff (focusing on the idiot part since I didn't quite know how to say "don't call me a woman"), and then they went on playing. But as we were leaving, Girl went up to him and said, with hands on hips, "Don't call me or my mom an idiot!"

Good girl.

Holy cow, sexism and rudeness starts way too young :(

Yay to Girl! It sounds almost like you met my nephew, who at the age of 4, once piped up from the back seat of my car "Bloody women drivers". His dad thought it was hilarious. Me, not so much.

You go, Girl! That's tellin' it like it is.

Word verification for this happens to be "caver." Something the Girl is definitely not :)

What you say is: "Don't talk to grown ups like that. Where are your parents?"

In a stern voice, not the typical "please" women's voice. Kids should call adults Miss or Mister (or Ma'am or Sir). People need to start by raising their children to 'know their place' and not disrespect adults. Then, they can work on the rest.

3 years old... probably imitating his dad.
